BECOMING A PETRA GRIFFIN

The following enrollment timeline has been approved by our Board of Directors for the 2017-18 year:

  • February 1: Education Team Advising begins
  • February 15: Returning Student Enrollment begins
  • March 15: New Student Enrollment begins*/Returning Student Enrollment continues
  • May 15: Tuition Agreements become binding
  • August 15: First payment due for annual and semi-annual payment plans
  • September 5: First payment due for monthly payment plans

February 1: Education Team Advising begins (optional)

Choosing Petra is a big decision. To support student and family retention, we provide structure and support for parents as they consider the challenges of returning each year. Members of our Education Team (Mr. Christofferson, Mrs. Stohlmann, Mr. Koenen, and Mr. Dunham) are available throughout the month of February for advising (individually or in small groups) to help think through options and get big and small questions answered. This is not a “strong arm” recruit; rather, we want these meetings to serve our families by providing a safe environment for parents to talk honestly with us about their family’s involvement with our school and any struggles they may be wrestling through in being here.

February 15: Returning Student Enrollment begins

  • Online registration with $100/student deposit by March 15, or $400/student deposit after March 15. This deposit locks an available roster spot for returning families.

After completing these items, a tuition agreement will be sent to you. All deposits apply toward the total tuition cost. Payments toward the remaining tuition balance (after registration is applied) will begin in August or September, depending upon your preferred payment method (monthly, semi-annually or annually).

March 15: New Student Enrollment begins*/Returning Student Enrollment continues

  • $400/student deposit (applied to 2017-18 tuition) with completed online registration locks a roster spot for new families as well as any returning families who did not take advantage of early enrollment.

*New families may complete the online registration early, but they will not be included in the enrollment count until after March 15, at which time all applicants (new or returning) will be included on a first-come, first-serve basis.

May 15: Tuition Agreements become binding

  • After families have completed online registration and submitted the requisite deposit(s), a tuition agreement will be sent. Families must complete and sign their 2017-18 tuition agreement and finalize their payment arrangements by May 15.
  • Up until May 15, families who have previously paid their deposit and completed their online registration may choose not to enroll, in which case they will lose their spot and their deposit, but will not be liable for the remaining tuition balance.
  • After May 15, a family’s deposit is counted as part of 2017-18 tuition and they are responsible for the year’s full tuition.
  • Families (returning or new) enrolling after May 15, may lock spot with their $400/student deposit and signed tuition agreement, and are responsible for the full 2017-18 tuition.

August 15: First payment due (annual or semi-annual payment)

September 5: First payment due (monthly payment)

(The payment is actually due on August 30, but we give a five-day grace period. If the fifth falls on a holiday or a weekend, the payment falls on the next business day.)

December 15: Second payment due (semi-annual payment)

RETURNING FAMILIES

The process for returning families to Petra is:

  • Education Team advising (optional; see above)
  • Complete online registration; deliver the deposit(s) to our office
  • Schedule admission testing (new siblings only)
  • Apply for scholarship (optional)

Due to Petra’s reliance on our parents’ financial commitments so that we may keep our salary commitments to the teachers we hire, all Tuition Agreements become binding on May 15; that is, if a student is withdrawn any time after May 15, the tuition amount is still expected to be paid in full for the coming year, with requested exceptions considered and granted only by the Board of Directors.

NEW FAMILIES

The process for new families to Petra is:

  • Attend an Open House Thursday (required)
  • Complete online registration and submit any report cards and achievement tests results from previous education
  • Schedule admission testing ($40 fee for an assessment test administered by Petra for grades K4 & KG; $20 for 1st-6th; students applying for grades 7-12 submit a letter explaining why they want to attend Petra Academy)
  • Schedule family interview (probably simultaneously with the assessment test for grades 1-6)

Petra Academy welcomes students of all backgrounds to our community. We do not discriminate based on race, sex, color, or national origin. Petra reserves the right to deny admission to a student if his or her ability, behavior, or emotional development indicates that he or she could not be best served by our school program. We seek to make each admission decision based on what is best for the child and for Petra.
